Update on Form I-9 Changes
Immigration Services (USCIS) proposed changes to the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, and the initial comment period for the proposal closed in January.
On March 28, USCIS published a notice in the federal register, opening the comment period up again for an additional 30 days
Submit any comment by April 27, 2016.
- Go to regulations.gov and enter 2016-06883 in the search box.
- Sort the available entries by Posted (Newer-Older).
- Click the “Comment Now!” button to make a comment, or open the docket folder to view the supporting documents, which include the proposed form and instructions.
- After completing all the necessary fields, click “Submit Comment.”
As reported in March, employers must continue to use the current version of Form I-9 until the Office of Management and Budget approves the proposed version and USCIS posts it on I-9 Central — even though this version has an expiration date of 3/31/2016.
