Form I-9 Expiration Date March 31 Questions, Proposed Revisions Pending
You may have noticed that the current version of the Form I-9 has an expiration date of 3/31/2016. What should you do after that date to stay in compliance? Should you keep using this form even with the expiration date on it?
According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), employers must continue to use the current version of the Form I-9 until proposed regulations to update the form are approved by the Office of Management and Budget, and the USCIS posts an updated form on I-9 Central.
“Employers are responsible for completing and retaining the Form I-9. Employers may be fined if the form is not complete.”
As previously reported, the USCIS has proposed changing the form to help reduce technical errors and allow customers to complete the form on their computer after it has been downloaded.
